Inaprubahan na ng Commission on Elections o COMELEC ang pagbibigay ng gun ban exemptions sa ilang opisyal ng gobyerno kaugnay sa nalalapit na eleksyon.
Sa botong 4-3 ay binigyan ng kapangyarihan ng Comelec si Election chairman Saidamen Pangarungan na magbigay gun ban exemptions at ilagay ang mga areas of concern sa Comelec control.
Inamyendahan rin ng poll body ang ilang mga polisiya sa election gun ban na ipinasa noong Nobyembre ng nakaraang taon.
Otomatikong exempted sa gun ban ang mga senior government officials at kanilang dalawang security aides, mga opisyal ng National Bureau of Investigation at Comelec.
Ayon kay Pangarungan, ang gun ban exemption ay para maprotektahan ng mga opisyal ang kanilang mga sarili.
Kabilang sa mga exempted sa gun ban ay ang;
Bise president at dalawang security detail
Senate president at mga senador, at two security detail
Speakers at members ng House of Representatives, at dalawang security detail
Chief justice at mga Justices ng Supreme Court, at dalawang security details
Justices ng Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan, at Court of Tax Appeals
Judges ng Regional Trial Courts at Municipal/ Metropolitan/ Circuit Trial Courts
Cabinet Secretaries, Undersecretaries, Assistant Secretaries, at dalawa at isang security detail,
Ombudsman at dalawang security detail, Deputy Ombudsmen, at investigators, prosecutors ng Ombudsman
Prosecutor General, Chief State prosecutor, state prosecutors, at prosecutors sa ilalim ng Republic Act No. 10071 ng National Prosecution Service of the Department of Justice
Mga opisyal kabilang na ang organic agents ng NBI
Mga election officers, provincial election supervisors, at regional election directors (RED) na pinapayagang magkaroon ng hindi hihigit sa dalawang security detail na aprubado ng REDs.
Matatandaang unang ipinatupad ang Comelec gun ban noong Enero 9 at magtatagal hanggang Hunyo 9, 2022.
