Tinanggap na ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos ang resignation ni Department of National Defense officer-in-charge Jose Faustino Jr.
Sa pahayag mula sa Office of the Press Secretary (OPS), kinumpirma ang pagbibitiw sa puwesto ni Faustino bilang kalihim ng Kagawaran.
Matatandaaang in-appoint ni Marcos si Faustino bilang OIC ng DND habang hinihintay ang pang matapos ang ‘one-year ban’ sa mga military officials bago ito italaga bilang full-fledged secretary ng isang tanggapan.
Samantala, tinanggap naman na ni Secretary Carlito ‘Charlie’ Galvez Jr. ang alok ng Pangulo na maging DND Secretary.
Si Galvez ang kaslukuyang kalihim ng Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity o OPAPRU.
Si Galvez din ang nagsilbing vaccine czar sa immunizaiton program ng Duterte administration, at dating chief-of-staff ng Armed Forces of the Philippines noong 2018; ilang buwan lamang matapos itong maging commander ng Western Mindanao Command kung saan siya ang nanguna sa liberation ng Marawi mula sa puwersa ng Maute.
Timing ng DND Secretary appointment sa napaulat na ‘destab plot’ sa AFP, ikinabahala
Umaasa si Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel na walang seryosong dahilan kung bakit mayroong mga ganitong uri ng developments sa Defense Department ng bansa.
Nangyari kasi ang appointment ni Galvez at resignation ni Faustino sa gitna ng napaulat na ‘destabilization’ sa Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)
‘I have no idea why these developments are happening. I hope there are no serious reasons behind all of these developments’ sabi ni Pimentel sa isang pahayag.
Matatandaaang una nang pinabulaanan ng AFP at ng Philippine National Police (PNP) ang ulat na destabilization sa kasundaluhan matapos naman ang reappointment ni Gen. Andres Centino bilang AFP chief-of-staff.
‘Good choice’
Sinuportahan naman ni dating senador at dating PNP chief Ping Lacson ang appointment ni Galvez bilang DND Secretary.
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni Lacson na kumpiyansa siya sa kakayanan ni Galvez lalo na’t kritikal ang transition period ng AFP para sa three-year fixed term ng mga top military officials.
‘Good choice. Gen Galvez can provide the leadership that the defense establishment needs especially during the transition period of the implementation of the law on fixed term of generals holding key positions in the AFP’ ani Lacson.
